Dan Magee’s track record as a filmmaker, editor and general skateboarding Renaissance man is virtually unprecedented in terms of output and influence. As brand director for Blueprint skateboards during its glory years, Dan was a creative force to be reckoned with – filming and editing seminal videos such as WFTW (2000), First Broadcast (2001), Lost and Found (2005) and Make friends with the Colour Blue (2010), which not only showcased the talents of the Blueprint team to a global audience, but also raised production values and aspirations for all other British and European skate companies that followed in their wake.
Additionally to his work with Blueprint, Dan has also worked extensively for clients such as Nike SB, Vans and numerous brands outside of the skateboard industry since officially relinquishing his role at Blueprint in late 2011. He has continued to bring his mastery of all filmic mediums and his inimitable attention to detail to bear on all projects that he has been involved with since.
Dan Magee will lead all aspects of Factory’s development of its skateboarding video production, focussing on the production of unique branded content and special projects for Factory’s own skateboard brands; Sidewalk (UK), Skateboard MSM (DE) and Kingpin (pan-Europe) – through to the production of signature content for/on behalf of Factory’s existing and new skateboarding clients.
“Magee’s influence on skateboarding in general, and on the media associated with it is unparalleled and I look forward to working with him in the future. He is a man of many talents with a scrupulous eye for detail and a level of experience that is extremely rare within this industry. He’s also one of the funniest human beings that I have had the pleasure to know during my tenure as editor of Sidewalk, and this new appointment will, no doubt, bode well for the future. Welcome aboard Napoleon.” Ben Powell, Skateboard Editorial Director
“With rose tinted spectacles, I count myself as fortunate enough to have cut my teeth in an era where there was no skateboard industry in the UK, very little magazine presence and a handful of sponsored riders. Present day skateboarders are lucky enough to have the opportunities and seemingly infinite media of today’s industry provided for them in a way that would have been inconceivable a decade ago. The same names and faces I grew up and skated alongside are now the people that bring you the most respected magazines and videos and represent the best riders and brands. It seems very fitting that my new relationship with Factory Media will further enhance my ongoing contribution and much loved involvement in skateboarding.” Dan Magee, Head of Skateboard Video Production
