Earth Touch

Year in the Wild

5 x 60'

This series looks at some of the greatest wildlife events taking place on our planet through the course of a year. Each programme showcases incredible natural spectacles of unparalleled proportions alongside individual tales and the fate of distinct characters. It is a rollercoaster ride of stories, captured in stunning high definition and skillfully put together to paint a colourful and exciting portrait of life on planet Earth.

Selected locations and characters are visited throughout the year, threading a personal story through the entire series to represent the passage of time, while each programme is designed to reflect the diversity of life at a particular time of year as a stand-alone show.

Life on planet Earth is a myriad of complex and often inter-related events, from the lives of microscopic organisms right through to the biggest mass migrations. And all are governed by the passage of the seasons through the year. At any one time, a pride of lions may be struggling to take down an adult buffalo, while a procession of leafcutter ants marches through a South American forest carrying their green cargo; a shoal of millions of sardines makes its way along South Africa’s coastline under constant attack from thousands of predators, while an orangutan mother nurses her baby in Indonesia.

Gentoo penguins squabble over nesting materials in Antarctica, while a hawksbill turtle hauls herself onto a beach in the Seychelles to deposit her precious cargo of eggs.

The concept behind this series is to paint a picture of life on Earth at any given point, to provide an impression of the rich diversity of wildlife to be found, and the struggles of different organisms as they deal with the changing of the seasons.

To provide a real insight into the changes through the course of a year in a single location, we will return to the Okavango Delta in the heart of Africa in each of our episodes to tell the story of the Xakanaxa lion pride and their trials and tribulations during the region’s wet and dry seasons.
